Frequently asked questions

You've got questions. We've got answers.

Is Scoutship really free?

Sometimes the best things in life really do come for free. We're completely free for job seekers.

We're able to offer this service for free to job seekers by charging a platform access fee to companies. Our pricing reflects our belief that companies shouldn't be punished for hiring great candidates. There are no additional fees for posting jobs, contacting candidates or making a hire.

Is Scoutship really anonymous?

Until the moment an employer accepts a match we keep things as anonymous as possible. Pre-match, we never share your name, contact information, age, gender or race.

To protect your privacy (and your inbox) we mask your experience and education (e.g., if you worked at Facebook a potential employer might see "U.S.-based public technology company. Industry: Social Media").

Once a match is made, we share your name and contact information with the employer so you can get the conversation going.

Why is Scoutship anonymous?

Anonymity is at the heart of Scoutship for a simple reason: we believe that when candidates and employers are able to be transparent, everyone ends up with better matches.

Many of our candidates are (understandably) reluctant to share publicly the details that are critical to finding a role they are happy with, such as the minimum compensation required. Others simply want to be able to keep an eye on potential opportunities without alerting their employer.

Employers are (understandably) reluctant to be fully transparent in job posts that the whole world can see. Important details like how flexible an employer can be on compensation and on the location of the role are buried in meaninglessly wide ranges or left out entirely. Sensitive roles, where an indiscrete job post could tip the competition to an employer's strategy, are especially difficult to navigate.

By defaulting to anonymity, we empower our candidates and employers to be as open as possible. Candidates and employers get better matches, for more roles, while keeping the things that should be private, private.

Is Scoutship a recruiting agency?

Nope. We're a platform that helps top talent match with roles from the world's best companies. We don't do screenings, assessments or hiring on behalf of other companies.

How does the matching process work?

We believe in quality over quantity of matches. A good match should feel like discovering you've already got so much in common with the employer you just met.

To create that experience we share your anonymized profile only with employers who meet your preferences. Employers have the opportunity to assess the anonymized profile to confirm the skills, experience and education are a good fit for the role. When an employer accepts a match, we lift the veil and share your name and contact information.

How long does it take to find a match?

How long it takes to find a match depends on how strict your preferences are. Actively seeking a job and haven't matched yet? Consider adjusting your preferences to cast a wider net.

What happens after I match?

Once an employer accepts a match we let you and the employer know and we share your email address with the employer. The employer has three days to reach out to you and start a conversation.

We share where you are in the job-seeking journey (actively looking, passively looking, or already in your dream job and only willing to consider offers that will tempt you to move) to set expectations for the employer.

Why can't I find one of my matches anymore?

If you're having trouble finding a role you've matched with it's likely that the role is no longer available. Top roles can be filled quickly so don't hesitate to contact an employer about a role you're interested in.

Can I share feedback on an employer?

Absolutely!

We ask for feedback on every candidate-employer interaction. Didn't receive a feedback request after a recent interaction? Please email us with the subject "Feedback".

Employers with consistently poor feedback are asked to leave the platform.

How can I update my job search status or preferences?

You can update your profile, status and preferences at any time from your Profile Page.

Is there a place to upload my resume?

In short, no. We started Scoutship in part because we believed employers focused too much on resumes and not enough on the candidates behind them.

Your Scoutship profile gives you control over the work experience, education, skills and accomplishments you show employers. If an employer accepts a match with you, it means they believe that you've met the minimum qualifications for the role and are interested in learning more about you.

Is there a way to search roles?

So you noticed there's no search bar?

One of the ways we're different from other job discovery services is our choice not to make the roles and candidates on our platform searchable. Instead we leverage our matching process to focus your attention on the roles that meet your requirements and the employers who are genuinely excited to talk to you. We do this to protect your anonymity and to empower both candidates and employers to be transparent with what they're looking for without fear that everyone can see it.

Can I delete my profile?

Of course. You'll find an option to delete your account on the Settings Page of your account. We'll be sad to see you go!

There's a discrepancy between Scoutship and an employer's website

While we strive to keep all of our postings current, changes made to a job post may not be immediately reflected in Scoutship. If you encounter a discrepancy, you should use the information provided by the employer's website.

You can alert us to an issue using the in-app support tools.
